8" Chef Knife Specifications
Premium Damascus Steel
Our Chef knife comes with an 8-inch blade made from the finest Damascus stainless steel. With 60 percent more carbon content than other highly-rated chef knives, the Damascus Chef knife throws out the challenge to the rest of the competition to match the durability and precision of our product. The materials contained within also ensure a dependable cutting surface (60+2 Rockwell) that delivers tremendous accuracy.
15-Degree Blade Angle
The most common western style for a chef knife uses a 25-degree blade angle. We cut down that number to 15-degrees so that your purchase will lead to a much sharper cut. And don’t forget, while it is likely for knives to lose their edge over time, you can easily maintain the sharp blade angle with a bit of extra care.
The Best Uses for Your Damascus Chef Knife
Chef knives are known as the workhorse of the kitchen. They are widely considered to be the most versatile of all kitchen knives and it is for this reason that they are highly effective at performing the following tasks with ease:
But truth be told there is really nothing the chef’s knife can’t do! And it is all thanks to the sharp edge blade, lightweight feel and thoughtful design that enable tremendous outcomes when it comes to your kitchen prep.
When you purchase this product, you can be safe in the knowledge that versatility is the highest priority. You’ll no doubt be impressed with its capability to quickly perform the smaller cutting tasks while also being able to confront the more arduous ones. Furthermore, with a little extra care and routine sharpening, it can be a kitchen companion that will last you a lifetime.
What is a Damascus Chef Knife?
Typically, a Damascus knife forges different types of steel together. A professional forger creates 67 layers altogether, which makes the knife stronger. Hot-drop techniques are common within forges, but its proven effective for chef knives. With 67 layers of razor-sharp steel, you have a well-grounded knife for any kitchen.
A Damascus knife is distinguishable by a unique wave-like pattern. A chef knife welded with layered patterns offers an eye-catching appearance. For ergonomic purposes, this chef knife uses a full tang handle made of included wooden materials.
In contrast, Japanese knives use a technique known as 'san-mai', which relies on thin layers with a steel core to cut. A Japanese Aus-10 steel knife lacks the unique patterns of Damascus, which is one reason one can prefer the latter knife.
Is Damascus Steel Good for Chef Knives?
Damascus steel knives are an ergonomic means to cut through several ingredients. The term 'ergonomic' refers to the practicality of your workspace (in this case, the kitchen). Damascus steel is often compared to stainless Japanese steel since they are both high-quality knives.
Thanks to high carbon steel and sharp angles, you have a chef's knife you can depend on. 67 layers of high carbon give a chef extra sharpening power. It's particularly useful in a Japanese kitchen that requires several types of vegetables like cucumbers and daikon. High carbon steel is what you want to look for in a sharp knife, especially if it has 67 layers included.
The main differences lie in the hardness of the blade. The Rockwell hardness scale is what determines the depth of penetration. A steel knife is hard, but Damascus steel is harder. In terms of Rockwell hardness, a Damascus knife ranks higher than a steel knife. There are also Japanese Damascus variants like the Aus-10 steel knife. A Japanese Damascus knife is a reliable asset for any chef, included with the razor-sharp nature of the blade.
The Difference Between a Chef's Knife and a Santoku
The most easily recognizable difference between a chef’s knife when compared to a santoku knife lies in the shape. Generally speaking, a chef’s knife like that of the damascus variety possesses a pointed tip together with a thicker spine which increases the weight. Therefore, the pointed tip forces the user to rock the knife forward as they perform the cutting procedure.
Conversely, the santoku knife is especially effective at creating thinner, more precise cuts, and as a result is the perfect knife for producing dishes that are artistically sound and visually pleasing. Both knives are extremely versatile and can perform almost any kitchen job to a high degree of satisfaction, you can’t really go wrong with either choice!
Is Damascus Steel worth the price?
The reason Damascus steel is highly sought is due to its premium-grade design. Damascus is known for its strength, durability, and longevity.
It also takes time to put together 67 layers of high carbon steel. The smith methods for a razor-sharp knife require professional expertise and patience. Both the VG-10 steel knife and the Japanese Aus-10 use high carbon content. The result is a knife that ranks high on the hardness scale and delivers value for money.
For a professional kitchen knife, consider our Japanese-inspired 8 inch chef knife made with lightweight Damascus steel. It contains all the characteristics of western-styled knives but delivers more precision, comfort and durability while remaining extremely versatile. We present the 8" chef knife with a beautiful aesthetic, which makes it the perfect gift for that special someone in your life.
I got this knife for a Christmas present. The markings on the knife are super light. All the pictures on the website showed this really cool dark patten from the folding techniques. But the knife I revived did not look like what was showed. It still cuts nicely but I’m disappointed that it did not look like what was advertised.
All photos from the website, whether it be our own or user generated reviews, are the same knives. As you can see from other client photos vs. your own, depending on the light the pattern is either more or less visible. Given that these knives are intended for broad home kitchen use, we use stainless steel which is food-safe and less prone to rust, instead of a higher contrast metal like nickel.
As always, if you are not happy with your purchase, you may return it for a full refund.
